Strategies for Forest Protection and Wildlife Habitat Management in the Era of Climate Change

Climate change is causing global ecological shifts and threatening the structural stability and functional integrity of forests. This directly leads to changes in wildlife habitats and a decline in biodiversity. Forests are not only key habitats for biodiversity, but also vital resources that provide various ecosystem services, including carbon sequestration, water cycle regulation, and the foundation for local livelihoods. However, these functions are gradually weakening due to the combined effects of climate-related disturbances and increasing human pressures. Accordingly, there is an urgent need to develop sustainable conservation strategies that integrate forest protection and wildlife habitat management. Achieving this requires a transdisciplinary approach that closely links scientific research, policy development, and community participation. Based on this awareness, this symposium is organized under the theme “Strategies for Forest Protection and Wildlife Habitat Management in the Era of Climate Change.” Researchers and students from Seoul National University (SNU) and Hokkaido University (HU), leading institutions in East Asia, will participate to share recent research trends, field case studies, and policy practices, and to engage in discussions. Through this event, we aim to establish future policy directions and academic foundations related to forests and wildlife, while strengthening regional and international cooperation networks.
